Geranium Petals

Geranium Petals (detail)
Geranium Petals
My mother has a potted geranium plant on her shelf. Some of the leave have fallen from it and were caught in a cobweb in the corner of the shelf. I was inspired by it the petals suspended in the air caught in the act of falling.

“Things that have fallen”
This series are a representational ceramic sculpture installations of leaves.
The leaves invoke thoughts of the woods and nature, and bring into question our relationship with nature, ecology and preservation. I read about how raking leaves in the fall has been blamed for the diminished butterfly population and how various creatures utilize the leaves during the winter months for their survival.
In this series I wish to convey a sense of connection with nature and hope it will lead to memories of hikes in the woods or parks.

Flower Petals Series
I saved the petals from a bouquet of flowers I received; I enjoyed them even as the petals fell off and dried up. They make me think about the passage of time and the beauty of impermanence.
